Oh, crap - both me and the kids were really looking forward to it. :veryangry:

I guess I'll have to wait another week for Despicable Me.

I can usually dismiss a bad review or two, but these seem pretty consistent. One review used the words "Waterworld" and "Ishtar" in it.

Scary.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

The trailers look great - of course, it's a lot easier to make good trailers than good movies.

Let's hope they don't screw it up, but that scene looks great.

My son saw it last night with his friends. He said it was entertaining only because he and his friends could laugh together at how bad it was. He said the acting was awful. Coming from a seventeen year old, that's an indictment. :lol2:

I'm a bit worried that might be too scary. Percy Jackson and The Olympians scared the living crap out of them so much we had to leave early, which was a shame because it was a special effects extravaganza, even if it was a very average movie.

Well, I have to sit through it. Good thing we have free passes for everyone to see it.

I am disappointed by these reviews but I am not surprised.

+1, minus the free passes. We as a family loved the series (Sokka rocks!), and well, we don't really have much of an option of not going. Well, the critics panned Speed Racer (and I went into it dreading it), and it surprised me, hopefully this will too.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Well, I took the kids to see it today, and to be honest I'm a little puzzled by the reviews. It wasn't a great movie, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as they're making out. It was certainly a lot more fun than Star Wars the Phantom menace, which blew chunks IMNSHO.

Acting was pretty bad, special effects were very well done. Both my two enjoyed it. The cinema was almost completely deserted, so I doubt the second movie, if there is one, will be an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

It probably helped that I've been subjected to a non-stop diet of the Airbender series over the last couple of months, so I had no problem following the story.

Let me know what you think, LD - I apologize in advance if you hate it. I have to sit through some rubbish on the TV on a regular basis, so maybe I'm immune.

Airbender rubbish? No way. Now, just about everything else on that channel is, but Avatar was pretty good stuff.

Hey John, how old are your tykes? I saw they were scared off of Percy Jackson, and M&M's and I were discussing picking it up at Redbox tonight.

My two are 8 and 6. They'd almost certainly have been fine watching it on TV - they've watched Pirates of the Caribbean with no ill-effects on DVD, and that has some pretty scary bits with the skeleton pirates. In the cinema the Percy Jackson special effects were a little over-powering.

As far as watching rubbish on TV - I wasn't referring to Avatar, which I agree is very good. The fact that I can sit through an episode of iCarly without flinching is a little worrying, however.

:lol2: That's the exact show I was thinking of when typing that most everything else is rubbish. In fact, I'm getting called downstairs because it's a "special episode" of iCarly.

I don't know what "Ishtar" is, but I really did like "Waterworld."

I was excited for this movie but these consistent bad reviews are kind of bringing that down a bit.....

Well, the best thing to say about the movie is that there's virtualy no chance of them making a sequel, and if they do, they won't me using M Night Shysterman.
