I've seen the previews, looks interesting.

What other good movies are coming out this summer? I was unimpressed with Iron Man 2.

We're really looking forward to Airbender. My two are addicted to the cartoons, and it's kind of pulled me in too.

All my movies are family affairs. That being said, 'Despicable Me' coming out in July looks like a lot of fun - my kids have been talking about it since seeing a trailer last July.

This movie will be great - me and Mrs. KB are very excited to see it.
The only bad part is that M. Knight Shamalalahahnahanahahahan had to be involved with it.
His clever surprises are never clever or surprising.
*SOILER ALERT*
PS: Bruce Willis is a ghost in the 6th Sense.

LsD - YOU!!!! I was going to watch that TODAY for the first time! I had a double feature planned with the Wizard of Oz and Planet of the Apes.
Well now you've ruined it!

Oh - and the aliens in Signs die when they touch water, yet they choose to try to takeover a planet made up mostly of Hydrogen and Oxygen. Good call ...

AL: I wasn't counting metalloids of course! :P
Besides - to be totally accurate I should say Hydrogen and Helium, since everything else comes from those two.

I hate to think what that means, although I've got a few ideas associated with a type of movie that I believe is rather popular in Germany.

I have reservations about "The Last Airbender". Looks too dark and humorless compared to the cartoons.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

Finally
"Last Airbender? Let's hope so." It sucks:
Worst Movie Epic Ever?
Quote:

Oh, the humanity! Where is it in this movie? The lack of vitality and even surface plausibility numbs the senses. Actors wander through sets, speak their lines and battle computer-generated beasts without ever convincing the viewer that they are the characters they're playing, let alone that these characters are worth investing an evening in. Shyamalan and his team have devised a fantasy environment that's both bland and murky; it's not a world that rewards the search for visual grandeur or eccentricity. The dialogue he wrote has the stilted sagacity of a fortune-cookie dictum; after each line is delivered, you may be tempted to shout out, "In bed!" The movie's lavish scale is matched by its amateur-hour naiveté — as if a Wall Street plutocrat had spent millions on a monumental pageant for his 10-year-old daughter's birthday party, then staged it himself on his country estate and invited his neighbors and their kids to play the leads.

I mean, it's really really bad.

It fails miserably.
Quote:

The Last Airbender is a poorly constructed film with no sense of plot, character or emotion – and aside from the visuals, there are little to no redeeming qualities in this wasted opportunity of a fantastic property, which was ripe for a film adaptation.

The movie (which stars Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone and Dev Patel) retells the main story arc of the first of three seasons (or “books,” as they’re known by fans) of the American cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender (see our review of Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 1 Collector’s Edition). In a spiritual world divided into four cultures, each Nation has a few people who have the ability to master the art of bending their respective elements: Air, Water, Earth and Fire. “The Avatar” is the one person in this world who is able to master all four elements – and this special person is reincarnated every generation into a member of one of the four cultures, following a specified cycle. It is the Avatar, the embodiment of the world’s spirits, who maintains peace and balance in the world.

It's a mess.
Quote:

It's almost sad what a mess "The Last Airbender" is. Based on a popular Nickelodeon anime adventure series, this not-brainless family action-adventure contains enthusiastic performances from fresh young actors and an almost Zen calm as it goes through some familiar blockbuster paces.

Unfortunately, its positive attributes are thrown out of balance by its abundant negatives - including chintzy effects, lumbering storytelling and an overstylized, earnest incompetence that evokes "Speed Racer." If you thought it was bad when writer-director M. Night Shyamalan was channeling Rod Serling, wait till you see him try to be George Lucas.

Roger Ebert: One Star.
Quote:

"The Last Airbender" is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that something should have gone right. Not here. It puts a nail in the coffin of low-rent 3D, but it will need a lot more coffins than that.
