My daughter would kill me if I played that so close to Regents.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

Wrapped up the year with an Old Testament/Hebrew Bible final. This professor had a real knack for devising essay questions in interesting formats. The one I had today was to demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the persons and reigns of kings Saul, David, and Solomon. But the assignment wasn't just to write out a dry listing of the pertinent facts. Rather, the task was to imagine that each of them were running for re-election as king, and you were to write the copy for TV campaign spots for them, and a corresponding negative ad against them. It was a really neat way to test the knowledge.

On a previous exam, the essay question that I had was to re-write a passage of scripture - the story of the Tower of Babel - as if it had been written exclusively by a.) a Yahwist editor, and b.) a Priestly editor [Wonk alert: most biblical scholars have come to see four distinct strands of source material and/or editing within the Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible - the Yahwist, the Elohist, the Priestly, and the Deuteronomist sources. Each strand has particular traditions, theological emphases and motivations, and they intermingle - sometimes side-by-side, and sometimes in tension with one another, within the books]. It was an interesting way to test an understanding of the different thrusts of each of these sources without just scrawling out a long, boring list. I just like writin' 'n stuff.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Those two posts are exquisitely incongruous, Dewey. :lol2:

Heh.

But, this is a milestone - I'm now officially halfway through seminary. Three years down; three to go.

Groan.
