Which cover do you prefer?

HOLY CARP!!!
Why are you jumping to conclusions about me liking or not liking the book itself?

Klotz hit the nail on the head. I am calling into question the skills of the cover designer not the contents or writing style of the book.

I have a daughter attending an expensive college remember? I think I know why it's so expensive but look forward to reading your take on it.

I blame the government mostly. ;)

But it is also heavily influenced by a leftist trend in society although the supposed "conservatives" are hardly blameless in the overall picture.

Very nice Radu -- perhaps the fonts could use some work, but the basic idea is very strong!

Far more attractive and poignant than anything the publisher came up with. That is a book I would open.

Thanks. As I said, there is a bug in my program regarding the fonts (anyway, I should be asleep now)

I did not know how to create the "wipe" effect Radu used which I really like, and which gives a softer edge to the image. The fonts are Copperplate Gothic and Copperplate Gothic Bold, and Felix Titling. The main title text is three layers, with a white highlight and a black shadow to punch it against the background.

Cool to see all the talented people here put their minds to something like this. :thumb:

A little disappointed that nobody's taken the opportunity to correct the most glaring problem though - the order of the names.

I'm going to suggest to my coauthor that he have a look at this thread.

Although I like what Radu and IT are doing, I suspect that image is copyright protected. But I'm sure that many other images could be used.

BTW, I like the copperplate font a lot.

Also, if we move away from earlier designs, I would have to abandon my 'aerial view' symbolism, which is doable, of course.

Ah. I like how movie posters and opening credits go to great length to try to create the appearance of "equal billing". They'll capitalize on left-right, top-bottom reading order by putting one name on top-right and another on bottom-left, to make them "reading order nuetral". That sort of thing. Not that that's applicable here, but it's funny how hollywood does it.

I like where IT is headed - but the image needs to be "greyed down" a bit, in order to get the title to pop. I like the color of the letters, and the font, but it has to stand out more than it currently does.

I voted for #1. It seemed to make the point with me. As Ivory Thumber said, simple, elegant and well proportioned.

That would be a very easy type of image to trope on -- or simply buy the copyright.

I don't like #1 because the red lettering at the top floats away.

I don't like #2 because people don't read sideways and that makes it look twee.

I like #3 because it's really clear, but I don't like it because it looks like the kind of book that would have a limited amount of useful information in it.

I like #4. I think it's sophisticated and balanced with visual impact. It looks smart. It doesn't look like someone trying to make a quick buck writing a book.

I like IT's take on Radu's cover. I think it's much stronger than the aerial view, which doesn't say "college" to me if I were walking by a book section. Nice font, and I also like the use of the color green and paper bill qualities of the graphic -- money, indeed.

I'm sure there's a nice college hall you could take a photo of and have someone add the Photoshop touches.

That's good, much better, although I think it's too yellow, that's not an appealing colour. I think it would better if it was more in the grey tones.

And the title still bugs me. :whome:
