My perception (as one of those right leaning friends) is PD is more in the middle than most anybody else on here, with the possible exception of R2. At least, I haven't seen him at any of the meetings. Edited by Luke's Dad, Apr 28 2010, 04:12 AM.

Jon .... Jon .... Jon, did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Are you honestly associating me with the "global warming is just a liberal myth" and "Al Gore is the root of all evil" school of thought around here? If so, you haven't been paying much attention. Actually, I rarely post in religion threads (religion broadly construed). I do remember a thread not too too long ago in which one of our members (I can't recall who) tried valiantly to defuse some of the wild claims swirling around after the climategate debacle at that UK university. I think that was the last 'warming' thread I posted in, and I tried to offer some support for his POV. |

No, of course not. Back to your original point, about strong dogmas that motivate people, I'm surprised you didn't mention the more, say, committed efficient market theorists. You must run into those types on a regular basis. |

Indeed, but the argument is usually about the fine points of theory and testing. If a person is quite well versed in both, I tend to give their 'beliefs' the benefit of the doubt. I may disagree with them, as they do with me on many points, but I suspect they are quite capable of changing their mind based on the same mathematics and statistics that I understand. |

Some of the most surprising (not to say egregious) claims I've run into involve trying to shoehorn events like the 87 crash into an EMH view of the stock market. |

It's not my area of study, so my views on the EMH are no better than any amateur's, but I would tend to agree. |
