We have all boys, Jarrett, Colin and Graeme....G was to be Hannah Rose if he was a girl...(Rose was my Grandma, Nan my other)

The only suggestion I have would be how we picked ours ....Choose something just a bit out of the ordinary so it's not too common and something that makes you smile....All our kids are named from people we have met in life who were nice, sweet, remarkable, funny.....

Jarrett was a musician/carpenter we met together before we married and instantly liked..we noted his name for the future...Colin was my HS class clown and a great guy..btw...Graeme is two people...one hub knew, one I knew...mine married his longtime live in (she had a preteen son too!) AFTER she had been released from a long hospitalization for depression....I thought..What a man!!! His name is forever that of an angel to me and now twice so with my G. :)

And if that doesn't work, we found movie credits are a treasure trove of name ideas! :thumb:

And whatever you do, don't become a teacher between now and when the baby is born! ;)

I'm SO glad I had Liam before I became a teacher. The name hunt would be a million times harder now. Luckily, all the boys named Liam I have run across have been likable. And I haven't met a single Charlotte. ;)

BeeLady - I thought about Graham for Liam, but I couldn't disassociate the name from someone else I knew.

Look at the most common names of the 1880s decade.

Posted Image

Look how many Marys there were.
I was wondering how one name could pwn all others to THIS degree.

I'll bet it must have been people naming there baby girls after the Virgin Mary.
I am not named after the Blessed Mary.. but rather the fallen one.. Mary Magdalen
it behooves me to behold

i am sorry I named my girl the most popular girl name in the area at the time.. there are 5 Claires Claras Klaras in her class. I know quite a few 15 year old Brittanys and 11 yr. old Madisons.

unique is good.

My sis has named her girls after their grandmothers.. Edith and Mildred.. altho she chose Edie and Millie as their given names.. cute as can be. I like it when the names have ancestral meaning.

As a general rule: don't name your female child anything that starts with an "H". And boys shouldn't be named with anything that starts with "D"". Ds and Hs, from anecdotal experience, are more likely to get into trouble. And no Js for either sex - they tend to be far less mature than their peers. It's not always true - one of my fave students right now is a J. But I have a team of kids where 12 of 20 are "Js" and oi - it's always a VERY long day.

Just sayin'

I knew one Sharron in highschool. I didn't like her. But she had 2 Rs and I'm convinced that was the difference. :D

In teacher's college, I was there early on the first day, and no one sat near me until the class was half full. A girl came in, looked around, saw me, and came and sat next to me. We started chatting and she introduced herself - she was also a Sharon. We were inseparable, became known as Sharon Squared, and remain friends to this day. :)

Thanks everyone for you thoughtful responses. I showed this thread to Mrs. FR last night and we wrote down a bunch more names to ponder.

BTW yesterday I was hosting a playgroup and a woman went into labor right in my livingroom. It was exciting and we all got to admire my minivan because suddenly parents and kids were shuffling around while Lydia and her husband rushed to the hospital. I assume she gave birth last night sometime and today I'll go see her in the hospital.

Her water breaking didn't leave a stain on the carpet, did it? :D
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

One more name to throw out there - a friend of mine named his daughter Bella. I think its fabulous.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Careful on Bella though, that's going to be shooting up the charts in popularity because of the Twilight books/movies.

Oh yes, good call. That's a shame. My neighbour's 12 year old daughter is named Isabella, which is beautiful, but she's been 'Bella' for most of that time.
