There's a Siobahn in our family and the name suits her pretty well but I don't think you have any chance of having that fly today.
Siobahn Magnus is in the top 6 on American Idol this season. Cute girl.

Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

Huh! Shows what I know I guess!

Not a bad name IMO.

I've never heard of "Siobahn". How is it pronounced? Cee-oh-bon?

Ease of pronunciation is key, for me.

One reason I don't have any friends named Eyjafjallajokull.

There's a Siobahn in our family...
How is that pronounced? I can't remember where (Beowulf?) but in High School we were reading some old book in English Lit and the Prince or King's name was Conchubar. My teacher told us it was pronounced as "Connor" and that has been my favorite boys' name ever since.

I'll check tonight to verify, but I think they have been pronouncing her name as "Shebon".

Ease of pronunciation is key, for me.
When my daughter Emily was born, my grandmother had already seen grandchildren Jarom, Ammon and Aidan born.

We introduced her to Emily and she said, "That's a good name. Easy to say. Easy to spell".

BTW, my friend that used the name Erin before I could, spelled it as Arynne. From what I see in my wife's second grade class here in Oregon, classic names are making a slow comeback. She still gets lots of wild spellings and "confected" names. One of my recent claimants was named "Shamonika", which I promptly mispronounced as "Sha-MO-knee-ka" instead of "Sha-Monica".

A guy I had a lot of classes with was named Airk. I pronounced it "Eric" and eh, it was close enough. He was short, big-boned, blonde and had a beard so for kicks we'd call him "Eric the Viking."

My junior year he up and did this two-year study abroad thing on some sailing ship.

I would have made the same mistake.

Now I can't get the sound of Michael Jackson yelling shamon out of my head.

If you have a boy, can you name it Hebon?
Absolutely.

Which brings to mind the lovely West Virginia name of Denise for a girl. And Denephew for a boy.

My, how the Susans have fallen from grace. No. 2 in 1959, now 712.

Don't name your kid one of the top 2 names for that year. It sucks having the same name as so many of your peers.
No, certainly don't do that! My mom's name (Linda) was either #1 or 2 in her year of birth. She says there were 3 other Lindas in her class, one being another Linda Jeanne (although I'm sure the other girl used the more common spelling of 'Jean')!

I've met 5 other Miriams in my life, 2 of them in England in the village I lived in. Out of 90 people, there were 3 Miriams and two Miriam Roses!
And how are you today?

Had Liam been a girl, she would have been Charlotte. I like it because you can go with cute (Charlie...yes, I did enjoy Stephen King's Firestarter, thank you!) or more sophisticated if you don't shorten it.

I like Lily.

How many syllables in your last name, FR? And what's the cadence?

Here's a cool site for baby names.
I thought it was so cool, I posted a link earlier.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Emily, Jessica, Hannah, are amongst the girl names we haven't had a chance to use. (actually we wouldn't use Jessica since that's my wifes name, but if I didn't marry a Jessica, and I had a daughter, that's definitely one of the names I would consider)

Sometimes looking for names having the same ethnic origin as the last name, can be helpful. (that's how we came up with Hannah) On the other hand, Taquisha Marie Fahrvergnugen might get you some funny looks.

I'm thinking I might need to start my own thread, along similar lines...

No, it's not in Beowulf. Conchobar is the name of several mythical/historical Irish kings. The old Irish pronunciation isn't actually Connor, but the name Connor was derived from it. I love the name Sean, personally, for a guy's name. I don't have any suggestions for a girl's name that hasn't already been listed.
We're all mad here!

:lol2: I looked up my name; thought you'd get a kick out of this dol,
Quote:

"Susan . . . it wasn't a good name, was it? It wasn't a truly bad name like poor Iodine in the fourth form, or Nigella, a name which meant "oops, we wanted a boy." But it was dull. Susan. Sue. Good old Sue. It was a name that made sandwiches, kept its head in difficult circumstances, and could reliably look after other people's children.
It was a name used by no queens or goddesses anywhere.
And you couldn't do much even with the spelling. You could turn it into Suzi, and it sounded as though you danced on tables for a living. You could put in a Z and a couple of Ns and and E, but it still looked like a name with extensions built on. It was as bad as Sara, a name that cried out for a prosthetic H."

~ Terry Pratchett, Soul Music

double funny that Sarah is the name I would have given my daughter, if I'd had one.
