I was worried, but now I'm happy

HOLY CARP!!!
I went to a piano function tonight.

I tuned the Steinway grand there 3 week ago and a bunch of important music people were there tonight.
The two people in charge said the piano sounds much better than it has ever sounded (and they have always used piano tech X, the best in town).
They said, Kenny I'm not sure what you did but now it sounds the way we always felt this piano could sound.
They thought I voiced it, but I only tuned it.

I was so nervous, now I'm happy.
Three of the attendees (whom I know all have nice grands) overheard this asked for my card since the guys saying all this are very highly respected.

Your career change is turning into something like an Aesop's fable. I love it.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

Actually... I'm not surprised by this. I recall something you wrote while you were at tuners school, where you said you either *hear* or *felt* the waveform of the strings as they came into tune. I can't remember exactly what you said and I'm too lazy to search for it.

But I remember thinking at the time you wrote it, that you had a gift for feeling the correct tonal quality. Whatever it is, I wouldn't try to explain it to your competition. You have a knack for spilling your guts about things, but I'd keep the way you go about tuning, your little secret. Because whatever it is you're doing and how you do, you've just received validation that other people like it. Don't give your competition the ability to copy it by telling them how you do it.

And yea... raise your prices a bit...

Kenny - kudos! I know how detailed and passionate you can be with your interests in life and I couldn't think of a better person to help improve pianos to be as good as they can be. :thumb:

Next time you're in Colorado, give me a call. My piano can always use help. (or maybe I'm the one needing help?)

Either way. Great to get some validation isn't it. Congrats.

Actually, 89th has a good point here. Most of your other interests (painting, photography, etc.) require a serious attention to detail, just like with piano tuning. I think it's no accident this turned out to be a good fit. :thumb:

Congratulations, Kenny!! I think tuning can be kind of like giving birth: You really can't say for sure how it's going to come out, but you hope for the best.

About a month ago, I tuned the M in my church sanctuary. Our music director was in tears after he played it. He said it was the first time in a long time he played and completely got lost in the sound of the piano.

Yes. Your passion and thirst for knowledge and perfection in your hobbies is obvious; no surprise that something that requires a desire for perfection would be a good career choice for you.

Really glad to hear things are going well for you.
