State law enforcement and other officials are supposed to try to confirm immigration status of anyone for whom they have 'reasonable suspicion' about that person's immigration status. It doesn't give any guidance re 'reasonable suspicion'. So what would constitute 'reasonable suspicion', other than being brown and poor? |

I think the law is way too "far reaching" in the trust we place in LEOs. LEOs like all of us are human and are subject to the same human failings including being a-holes and power hungrey egomaniacs. I think a better law would be not just to stop someone because a LEO suspects something but rather during routine traffic stops or arrests for criminal activity. This kind of far reaching law will only result in "Let me see your papers!". It's wholly unconstitutional. |
