Here's hoping he finds some financial backing

Let's see - we block the sunlight coming through the window with a collector then take credit for the heat it puts out. What's wrong with this picture?

Yeah, I can't see a huge market for this. Natural light is very dear to me, especially in the winter.

And that's overlooking the fact that most of the light energy entering the window will get converted to heat anyway.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Somewhat off topic but since it has to do with using the sun to do things, I thought I would post it here. Plus it is a good survival tip if you are ever in such a situation. :)

SODIS

Basically, putting dirty water in a regular plastic water bottle and placing it on a piece of metal (in the sun) for 6 hours or so will decotaminate the water, making it safe to drink.

Maybe some of you have already heard of this, but it was not so obvious to me. What a great way to provide clean drinking water to those that do not have it, or if you are camping or something like that

Wow - that's incredible, especially when you realize that the number one killer in the entire world, by far, is diarrhea caused by the lack of potable water.

Of course, it doesn't do anything to correct water with chemical pollutants, but this is still a major - and unbelievably simple - thing. :thumb:

I agree. There was a school in Africa (maybe Kenya?) where at the first, only 10-15% of the school children were passing the 6th level exam, mainly due to absences because of sickness. After setting up a clean water project, the amount of absences went down significantly, along with an increase in test scores.

TG, thanks for posting this. I'm forwarding the information to some people at Rotary International, just in case they are not aware of it.
