TV and Piano sharing a room; Who wins - the one who wants to watch tv or the one who wants to play the piano?

I am enjoying the thread that Kenny posted of the livingrooms!

Once I find on this site how to post a picture, I will post mine -- the top of my piano is cluttered.

Anyhow, I noticed that some of the pictures that were posted show a piano in the same room as the tv. Just curious, if someone wants to watch tv, do you let him watch tv and give up the piano playing for the moment? Just comparing...

No tv near my piano.

But I try to practice during the day when the family is at work/school.

Oil and water.

Pianos and TVs don't mix.
Shudder.

Kenny, why can't a TV and piano co-exist in the same room?

Just imagine.... :lol2:

You just upload the picture to an image hosting site.

I suppose it depends on what you're playing. :cool2:
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Unless it was something really important that absolutely had to be watched right then, and couldn't be recorded for another time (and I'm struggling to thing what that might be), live music rules.

HOLY CARP!!!
When TVs first came out there was no sound so people would hire piano players so they'd have something to listen to as they watched their silent TV shows.

This is allowed.

That we've done. It's amazing what you don't miss by not hearing what's on the ol' tube.

The TV is not in our livingroom anymore. It is in a very small bedroom where we used to have a treadmill. The treadmill got moved into our one-car garage, where no car exists, because the garage is too small.

As small as this house is, a little over 1000 sq ft, it is nice to have the piano separate from the tv. However, as I told Kenny, I haven't been playing the piano, and the top is piled up with junk. :-(

I'm not a big tv viewer either...

I'm with Kenny on this issue.

I am one of those TV extremists who watches zero TV. Nothing. We don't even have a TV...except for a dusty old clunker hooked up to a VCR that never gets used. I really should just get rid of it.

Y'hear that 89th?

Get rid of your TV's....do it now!! :lol2:

We have a tv in the living room - and home theatre. We have a bunch of really great recital programs that are on DVD - e.g. Barenboim's complete Beethoven sonatas, Kempff playing Beethoven.etc.

And we record a few things during the week that we watch together - e.g. Lost, Dancing with the Stars, Dr. Who.

Neither of us is that into television for the sake of television. When I play the piano, Carol is typically either painting or doing something else in the house.

TV viewers and piano players can learn to get along....

Even though our piano and TV are in separate rooms, the piano ALWAYS "wins".
