In all seriousness, I'm ready. Only 47 days to go.

In all seriousness, I would find it difficult to care less about the American football season. That's what you're talking about, right? Although I understand it interests other people. For me, it's about like the start of hunting season. It happens, people get excited about it, and sometimes I benefit with food (as in, venison sausage/super bowl party chow). :D

I'm tempted to jump in here, but I'll let jon fill you in on what this really means...

Ok, that's helpful. Am I missing something (I mean, besides Bach's little photo?)

That 47 day theme keeps recurring, jon.

That puts us at the beginning of June, which sounds a bit early, even for training camp.

Dare I ask what starts in 47 days?

47 days? You should check out the Champions League semi-finals and finals - still going on. Best teams in the world. Also, FA Cup final is May 15th.

Anyway, who do you think will win the WC?

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

The one to watch this summer is Lionel Messi.

League play bores the **** out of me, its no better than American football.

I'm a sports fan for exactly 6 weeks every 4 years.

INGERRRRRLAAAAND!!!!

(Slightly oddly, they're actually second favourites, after Spain, at least with Ladbrokes Bookmakers)

I'm going for A.B.A. (Anybody but Argentina)

I would say that Brazil look pretty strong. Spain is the best team now, but it depends on whether Torres and Fabregas get back from injuries.
I think England has a really good shot now because they have a great manager this time.

I don't see Argentina going far. Not with Maradona as a manager.

Throwing away the idea, first with with Erikson and now Capello that the head coach has to be English could be the smartest thing they've ever done. Even this cynical old ex-pat who hardly follows football at all would go absolutely freaking nuts if they manage to win it. 44 years is a bloody long time to wait.

Capello seems to have the right attitude, discipline, understanding, and everything else to make England a better team.

Depending on team chemistry, I think Holland could get to the semis this time. They have a lot of good players - Van Persie, Robben, Sneiyder - how ever you spell it).
