The day Einstein died; ...never seen before photos released

Each image has subtext about the photographer, Morse, and how he bribed his way into Einstein's office, his editor's decision not to release the images, etc...

VERY interesting, I thought.

ZOOOOOM!
I really enjoyed the pictures, I plan on reading the captions later on when I'm back from work.

Random Einstein story: he visited my home town a couple of times. My grandmother claims to have seen him once, when she was young.

"Wow," I said, "what did you say to him?"

"Nothing," she said. "He was obviously in the country to enjoy himself and not be noticed so I didn't disturb him."
I cite irreconcilable differences.

My uncle (now in his 80s) spoke to him on a train once, apparently.

Very cool photos.

I feel a special affinity with Albert; he died the day before I was born.

Either one great genius making way for another, or he got out of Dodge while the going was good.

I guess I'll never know.....oh, wait, um.....never mind....

Hope he's having a good time wherever he is....

I think it is nice that they decided to keep these from the public eye. Would that they had continued that gracious decision. I find it all rather ghoulish.

Ghoulish was the pathologist removing Einstein's brain after the autopsy and preserving it without the family's permission.

I think it's nice that they released them. He was a respected, loved, admired man - still is. These are important photos. They're not scandalous. As amazingly clever as he was, he was also a normal human who died and had mourners.
And how are you today?

I thought it was quite a contrast to how the "paparazzi" behaved back then (if you could even call it that) vs how they behave now, e.g., Michael Jackson's death.

That's what strikes me. One phone call from a relative to request photos not be published to protect the family's privacy, and it's a done deal.

Today's media has lost that sense of grace and decency. It's important, I feel, to see these pictures, and read the story, to remember that.

Very neat. Thanks for sharing those. Is it true that Einstein failed school when he was younger?

From what I heard, he didn't like some of the schools he attended (and so probably received poor grades due to not completing the work), and he had speech problems as a kid.

I got so wrapped up in the photos on that website last night that I forgot to post a reply. That website has some great photos - not just of Einstein. :thumb:

Did you know that Einstein once married his cousin. She was a very buxom woman.
He called it the Theory of Relative Titty.

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
My grandfather had a Knabe -- some sort of huge "upright grand" circa 1900, that was from a theater from Vaudeville days or when a piano player would accompany the silent movies.
The dogma lives loudly within me.
