I am such a loser. When Mr. Jodi started his current job, I didn't have time to figure out how to allocated the retirement stuff. So had most of it funnel into a Vanguard S&P 500 index fund.

That was 8 years ago. I never re-allocated. I get paralyzed everytime I think about it. (we have other retirment funds from other jobs that are split into many areas - stocks, bonds, cash, etc) But this one ISN'T. I know it needs to be. I remember reading a book once that talked about an easy 4 split, but I can't find the stupid book, nor can I remember its name. (jonnyc reccommended the book, IIRC) I don;t even know if the info in that book applies to the current scene anymore. So anyway, before I start digging in boxes, I'm hoping you all will get me started in the right direction.

We have a ways to go before retirement. If you only split your retirement income into 4 categories, what would you do? I want to stick to Vanguard index funds. I'm not buying gold. :sombrero: I know one of the four is supposed to be a bond fund, I just don't know which one to pick. Gawd, I hate this stuff. Why can't it be easy?

:)

Cheers
I'm not comfortable saying to somebody 'put your money here, here, here, and here'.

The book I recommended to you before, though, was Wiliam Bernstien's 'The Intelligent Asset Allocator'.

We just had another thread about it a week or so ago.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Good - that's the book. Now I just have to find it. He did split it into 4 or 5 categories - am I remembering that right? I remember his mathematical equations about adding the bond fund in - how even though they tend to go the opposite direction of the stock funds, having that in the mix made the end result better than when they weren't in the mix. Or something like that.

My kids want me to read "Twilight", but I'm telling them that this book is a bit more important right now.
