Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |

I used to have one just like the one in the forefront. Wore it to a few costume parties and in college dorm floor photo. Not sure exactly whatever happened to it. Probably a victim of a pre-move yard sale. |

I have a fedora. And a Panama hat. They never fail to attract compliments from women. I wish I had a silk top hat, but they don't make them anymore. All the top hats now are felt. Boo hiss. |

You are correct sir. JFK didn't like to wear hats, and his influence was felt almost immediately. Hat sales in the US declined, and domestic manufacturers pleaded with JFK to help them out. JFK still declined to wear hats, but as a compromise he often allowed himself to be photographed holding one. |

ZOOOOOM!

Huh. I had no idea. Neat! (Because my father was a space race fanatic and because the JFK presidential library has thus far been the only one I've been able to visit, I know a fair amount of really random stuff about the guy. He liked to doodle sailboats when he was on the phone, for example.) |

The JFK Presidential Library is awesome. JFK was an avid sailor. My dad has his quote about sailing on a plaque in our boathouse: "We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch - we are going back from whence we came." |
