Deficits under Bush were declining right up until the financial meltdown which necessitated the TARP bailout. Yes, that caused the budget deficit to surge but is Bush "responsible" for it? What about the almost one trillion piled on top of that with the "stimulus" by Obama? Yes, thin.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

And don't forget, as Kathy pointed out, that most of those TARP funds are being returned along with a tidy little return on top.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

True, but TARP is only a portion of the money spent on the bailout. The three biggest bailouts by far - Fannie, Freddie, and AIG's - were pre-TARP.

but if we're going to start laying blame on Obama, who has barely finished his 2nd term, it is compeltely disingenuous to ignore the mess that he was expected to clean up when looking at bleak projections.

Just to point out (once again) - Obama ran for the position of President - he wanted the position, he spent lots of money campaigning to prove he was the best person for the position, he knew the situation when he ran, and he promised great things for the country and the American people (hope AND change, remember?). No leader will survive if his standard response is about "his inheritance". If he isn't up to the job (which means successfully leading the country out of the current financial and economic situation) then I doubt he'll make a second term - regardless of who did what to who before he came into office.

Oh, and I just checked the US National Debt Clock - the numbers are still all going in the wrong direction.

I really like the Roman like spelling. Gives it a certain flavor, like spvmante. Cool.
