Advice for managing contact info

For the past 5 years I've managed my contact info through my firm's outlook system, which replicates to my blackberry.

I'll be giving that up soon, so I need a new method.

Before I joined my current employer, I used the old Palm client on my PC. THat doesn't seem like a good solution.

I could upload them to hotmail or google mail, but I'd prefer to have a local program that can sync to one or both of those.

How do you folks do it?

Its worth mentioning that I have probably 1000+ entries in my contact list.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

ZOOOOOM!
I've been using the same e-mail address for quite some time now. Everyone I've ever contacted, would want to contact, or never want to contact again (but need their info. to see if they're ever trying to contact me) is floating around in my ocean-sized Inbox. Search function FTW.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

why not use outlook at home and sync with your blackberry ?

(oh, you mean you'll be giving up the BB too ?)

I have the same contact management system, Aqua.

Before the era of stored "frequently called numbers", I just remembered everyone's phone number. My husband would always have to ask me for the phone number when he wanted to call someone. We finally decided to write them all down so in case I got hit by a bus, he could let our friends know about my demise.

:lol2:

one of the angels
i (we) have 3 contact lists. .. business, personal and 'public' so to speak.. a list of people who we allow to contact us 'nonprofessionally' or nonpersonally... the lists may overlap.

it's fairly cumbersome... not that this helps you.

HOLY CARP!!!
1. Export your contacts info from Outlook to a CSV (comma separated value) file. See http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/qt/Export_Outlook_Contacts_to_CSV.htm

2. Import that CSV file into Google Mail. See http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=8301

(If you use Apple stuff, import that CSV file into Apple Mail, then sync from their to you iPhone/iPod and such.)

ok, ax. Say I import it into gmail and Apple's address book. Do I need to maintain both lists or can I keep them in sync?

No automatic sync'ing between Apple and Google.
Sorry. (Heck, there is no automatic sync between Google and anything non-Google, or between Apple and anything non-Apple. :( )
