They don't last forever and are so cheap it's not worth getting them fixed.

I guessed 8.

I'm on my first. Got a late start. Don't particularly like it. Could manage just as well without it. I think it's an utterly ridiculous idea.

Wanna talk toaster ovens? Love mine.

1.

bought it to reheat the baby food I made for the kid,( before we knew that reheating stuff in plastic was a no no. :hide: ) That would be about 19 years ago. Still have the same one.

I prefer my toaster/convection/rotisserie oven.

I'm still not convinced that the micro does not alter my food in some way that my body does not recognize it as food. I always seem to get more bloated even when I microwave water versus boiling it for coffee.

Kenny, recall the Frankenwave thread? Yes, it's 25 years old and still works great.

You've gone through eight of them? How?

I've never bought one. I use one at work sometimes but never miss having one at home.

I dunno - maybe 3? I know 1 for sure, but the others came with the place when I moved in.

Wow, I guess I'm just weird.

They last for 3 or 4 years.
Maybe I need to pick the most expensive instead of the cheapest.

I think they last longer now. The one I have came with the place and dates from 98. It was not used much, however.
Have tossed 4 or five.

I've only bought one, for college. It replaced my parents' old one when I went to England. The one I have now came with the house, a GE. My mom's microwave is funny -- a dancing chef displays when your food is ready.

I dunno about that. Ours is a Panasonic, certainly wasn't high end, and has lasted, like I said, about 19 years. I don't use it a lot though, maybe that does make a difference?

Ha, kenny, buy a fancy one? Ours came from JCPenney about 25 years ago. Who knows what the manufacturer really was.

We use it every day for all kinds of things from breakfast to dinner time. Hubby replaced a fuse once just recently. Maybe that's all yours needed?

Dang.
I'll have to think of a poll that is even more inane.

It won't be easy.

Microwaves last forever, unless you buy total junk. Buying a new one every 3-4 years sounds excessive.

I don't have one now but I did when I was younger and didn't cook much.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

4 for me. The only more frequently replaced appliance is the coffee maker.

We got our first in 1983. I had wanted one for awhile, but my wife couldn't see the purpose in having one. It was housewarming gift from my mother-in-law when we moved into the house we live in now. She had gotten one while we were living overseas, loved it, and thought we should have one. It was a Tappan and the principle problem was the door handle that kept breaking. I repaired it twice, but when it broke the third time, my wife's patience expired and she went and bought a Sharp.

That lasted for awhile until the display screen started loosing pixels to where you had to be very careful to push the right buttons because you couldn't tell what the settings were otherwise. I bought a new display panel (a $20 part), ground the centers out of the tamper-resistant Torq fasteners to get inside, and replaced it with no change in the symptoms. The problem lay in the main control board, which was more expensive as a repair part than another microwave. My wife had liked the Sharp so I bought another one and put the old one in the garage for spare parts.

When that one failed, it turned out the failure was not repairable with parts from the previous one so it was off to the store to buy another microwave.

The fourth and current microwave is a Kenmore which has lasted pretty well (knock wood). All four have been full size counter top models. We use it mainly for reheating coffee and leftovers, making cooked cereal and rice, cooking potatoes, and heating frozen vegetables as side dishes for a meal.

As a counterpoint to the 4 microwaves, we're still using the KitchenAid mixer and the Whirlpool washing machine and dryer that we bought when we were newlyweds about 35 years ago.

This is relatively high on the inane list but miserably low on the global nosey scale. You've done much better in past.

Keep trying someday you'll hit the jackpot.

I don't know how anyone can survive without a microwave. We've owned 6.
