HOLY CARP!!!
Link: Pope Benedict hit by new Church child abuse allegations

Saving grace in the article: "The Vatican on Friday urged Catholic dioceses around the world to co-operate with police investigating sex abuse allegations against priests."

ZOOOOOM!
News of the Tautological.

Let me tell you how surprised I am that this is still an issue after Easter.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I was reading a piece by the editor of "The Catholic Thing." He basically says the church is being victimized and what about all the good work we do etc. and calls the church's detractors "hate mongers." He quotes a particularly impassioned Richard Dawkins (famous evolutionary biolgist, freethinker, and atheist)
Quote:

The ever loathsome Richard Dawkins expressed the hate that dare not speak its name: “Pope Ratzinger should not resign. He should remain in charge of the whole rotten edifice – the whole profiteering, woman-fearing, guilt-gorging, truth-hating, child-raping institution – while it tumbles amid a stench of incense and a rain of tourist kitsch sacred hearts and preposterously crowned virgins, about his ears.”

And they thought MY post was ove the top?

Big John, I have read within the past week or so that most of the criticism of the Catholic church is coming from Catholics. I'll get links if anyone wants them.

That's great Bernard. Is there a penalty for criticizing the church? I've been studying the Jesuits in my Music Lit class and they can't question anything. It seems to kind of "run in the family" so to speak.

I'm really sorry that some people don't want to see this, don't want to hear it. But I feel strongly that we need to keep talking about it, keep posting stories.

It is important, and it is news.

Bernard, I've seen a lot of the same thing here.

I agree Sue. What happened to me has happened to a lot of other people -- and Beelady posted the most poignant post about female victims as well. I'm learning that questioning the vatican is basically unconscionable and that the hierarchy views itself as victims.

I read this in an online church bulletin on Sunday. It gives an idea of how the church views its detractors -- as enemies. It's going to be an upward climb just getting the church to understand that they can't play the victim card when the numbers of victims are so huge and so vocal.

Quote:

LET US PRAY
FOR OUR SOVEREIGN PONTIFF BENEDICT XVI.
THE LORD PRESERVE HIM AND GIVE HIM LIFE,
AND MAKE HIM BLESSED UPON THE EARTH,
AND DELIVER HIM NOT TO THE WILL OF HIS ENEMIES.
AMEN.

Just who are the enemies?

Absolutely. We need to keep talking about 'this'. Maybe we can start a new political party. I propose we call it the "Know Nothing" party. Oh, wait, that name was already used? No matter, the name fits VERY well anyway.

Well then, perhaps some education is in order.
