It's the great spring closet clean of 2010. This picture doesn't quite do it justice - this is the closet under the basement stairs. It's full - front to back. It's all the kids toys. From the time they were little. (They are 15 and 18 now ) And I've been avoiding it for YEARS. I'm a litte afraid of what I'm going to find. (or what might find me - I think that little shoebox covered with the saran wrap is an old insect collection  ) So send out a search party, because I might get lost. I've also been avoiding it because I am afraid I will  because they aren't my babies any more! I don't know if I can bear to get rid of their toys. I'll keep some of the the good ones. But most of this stuff needs to go. At least, that's what I keep telling myself...

You'll be amazed at how much more energy you'll have after you're finished.

I know. We've been tackling our basement, and I can't believe how different the whole house feels as we sort through many years' worth of "stuff".

They say you spend the first forty years acquiring things, and the next forty getting rid of it. We're behind a few years, but making progress.

Looking forward to your "after" pic for inspiration!

Jodi, think of it as creating space for yourself. When I have to do that type of task, getting rid of stuff, I consider it as buying space for the things I want to keep.

A few years ago, I had a garage sale of much of daughter's baby stuff, including toys. Hubby kept talking of the selling. I finally told him, "We're not selling; we're buying ...... space!"

Yikes! For that closet, I'd be leaving a trail of breadcrumbs and packing a light lunch.

Have a safe trip!

Tie a line around your waist. Tie the other end to something solid.
Call a neighbor and tell them to call the police if they have heard from you in two hours.
Take your cell phone with you, but they don't often work from wilderness areas.

Take some Clif bars and water with you.

EDIT
Wait until your kids have kids and then you can send them in to collect toys for their kids. They can show their kids what fun (cheap) toys they had without spending the big bucks for the new carp.
