Google Maps in 3D? I haven't tried it (no glasses), and was wondering how it looks.... |
| Let us begin anew, remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness. | |

I wasn't even aware that Google maps was in 3D! What a high-tech strange world we live in. |

I don't. I recently saw that option when looking at Google Maps the other day. I really hope this 3D "fad" passes soon. It's been tried in the past and failed, and it's coming back for another attempt. There are a few applications where it's kind of cool, but now it seems they are trying to make every movie "now in 3D!", concerts, sports, etc........sorry, 3D gets old very quick when you're trying to watching something for what it is, and not just "oh that part of the screen looks like it's popping out at me!"

In some ways I agree with you, but I will say that many of the movies that are being created specifically for the 3D Effects Don't seem to be going for the duck and cover gimick, but instead seem to be using it more for adding definition to the environment, and that's been pretty cool. |
| The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it. | |

+1 When done properly, 3D can make a movie enjoyable on a whole new level. I never got to see Avatar in IMAX 3D (just polarized, or whatever you call it) but everyone I know who did said it was a totally different experience. Apparently the same went for Alice In Wonderland. In contrast, Clash of the Titans was a 3-dimensional disappointment because it wasn't designed specifically for 3D, but rather the producer decided on the conversion as an afterthought. |

Good points - in some cases it's helpful. I just hope it stays the exception instead of the rule. The other day I went to the movies (a non-3D movie) and literally 6 out of 6 trailers were for movies "in 3D!". Avatar was kinda cool seeing it in 3D...I guess it works well for animated films like that, but again, it really works in rare cases but I'm just afraid that production and marketing companies are going to jump on the bandwagon not for the quality but for the hype. I know, business as usual.... |
