Wait a minute! Aren't you supposed to be banging rocks together to make fire and such? How did you manage "internet".
I have returned! I've been up since 12.30 this morning, so don't expect anything clever. I've been drinking quite a bit of that delightful warm beer, as well, which doesn't help. I also got some Laphroaig Quarter Cask for 25 quid - 10 pounds cheaper than the Duty Free were selling it. It was almost worth spending the $700 for the airfare (which my parents paid, God bless 'em)
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

I have always gone easy on you on the "clever" bit.

As [sic] least most of the nastiness lobbed at Bush *was* a result of his actions as president - that does not appear to be true with the hatred spewed against Obama.

Oh really? All the masses of people that have been protesting are all driven not by the man's policies, but by race or some other unimportant motivation? The language here was more subtle, but you've still put the race card face up on the table in this claim.
I've explained myself already, but I'll take one more stab at it. With Bush, aside from the divisive political climate, you had two elections that were arguably stolen, and you had an an unprecedented war of choice based on lies. Those alone are three huge, huge issues, and I posit that they were behind the lion's share of the vitriol aimed at GWB - certainly mine. IMO, the war alone was enough to inspire any fair-minded, peace-loving person's intense anger. And, in spite of the first, arguably, stolen election, Bush's popularity rating soared after 9-11, so there was a huge number on the left that gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now let's contrast this with Obama. He had already inspired Bush-level wrath by merely being elected in an uncontested election (except, of course, by the nutbob birthers). A huge number on the right had decided to hate him before he even took the oath of office. That in itself should cause one to stop and wonder, just what is it about this man that could cause such hatred, before he's even been allowed to show his stuff.

Then, let's look at the health care issue. That seems to be behind much of the wrath of the tea partiers. As Rich and other commentators have pointed out, the health care plan that finally passed, has many of the features that Republicans had pushed for, it's without a public option (the biggest bone of contention on the right), and looks almost identical to the plan the Mitt Romney pushed in his own state (while he denounces this one, but that's another story).

Then look at most all of his other actions as president so far. He has proven to be too centrist for many on the left. Jbryan just pointed out in another thread how he's "gleefully embraced" many of GWB's policies. So, other than the health care bill, which is nearly identical to Mitt Romney's health care program in Mass., just what is it that has gotten so panties of so many on the right in such a wad? The response is completely disproportionate to the reality.

Then, take a look at the right wing blogs, and feast your eyes on all of the blatantly racist crap that circulates.

It really doesn't take rocket science to add it all up. The simple fact is, there is still a very large segment of our society that was not ready to embrace a president of color. This was borne out by many pre-election polls, and I dare say, is proving true.

Was this particular turd about Michelle racially motivated? Perhaps not. But, whenever I see hateful anti-Obama messages, it's the first thing that comes to my mind.

No doubt the email Kathy related was racist, and I certainly condemn it. Unsubstantiated claims of racism can be almost as bad and also deserving of condemnation. Kathy's original post in this thread was nearly as offensive as the email she referred to, and in some ways is worse as it was directed at several of us in this forum, where we share a personal relationship with each other.
You are wrong about my post being directed at any members of this forum. I didn't like the link - that's what my comments were directed at. In fact, I made myself very clear that I did not consider, the poster, IT racist.

He's a Marxist. We didn't want him to "show his stuff". He's naive, he's not qualified for the job, he's arrogant, and we warned you of these things. Now he's systematically destroying the nation and idiots like you are STILL trying to defend the sorry fool.

That's the stupidest thing imaginable. The man got elected, did he not? If his race was an issue, he wouldn't be in the White House.

You, and all the rest of you brain dead leftwing nutbobs just don't get it. His poll numbers are in the toilet not because of his race, but because of his politics.

Damn.. modern liberalism IS a mental disease.

All this shows is that the Republicans are a whole lot better at politics than the Democrats.

The Republicans got the stuff they basically wanted without having to own any of it, and the Democrats got basically nothing of what they wanted and have to own it all.
