I think a mix of civility and audaciousness is just as good as it is in face to face relationships.
Audaciousness, eh? I'm trying to picture Minnesoooota audaciousness. Maybe that's when you put red pepper strips in the green bean casserole?
Truffle salt on the lutefisk.

I enjoy certain things here, particularly life through a different lens, so to speak. It is a strange phenomenon of the last 10 - 15 years that we have the ability to spontaneously interact with people from vastly different backgrounds. It is cool.
I totally agree.
People who have left don't.

Reminds me of gays who have to live in San Francisco or West Hollywood.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

I thought this was supposed to be a biker bar. You eat Foie Gras in a biker bar, you're going to be force fed something even more unpleasant than the goose got.

And whatever it is, it will no doubt be British.

Quirt’s been posting steadily here for the past few years. He’s probably just taking a much needed respite from this place.

TNCR and WTF are both suffering from the same problem. It’s declining membership. Rarely does a new member join. The Board Statistics page shows that new people do register but then for some reason never post anything.
IMO, I think the forum software switch at PW had an effect on membership here and at WTF. How many of us have yet to get used to the new format at PW? I may have posted there once since the change.

Just a thought...
Of the three forums, TNCR has the best mix of people.

I think the problem of declining membership is related to the way TNCR and WTF are organized.

Look at any special interest group web site that has forums. The primary forum deals with the special interest whether its playing a musical instrument, playing a sport, car model ownership, etc. A coffee room subforum exists on the web site but it's subservient to the primary forum.

Now look at the way this forum and WTF are set up. It's just the opposite. Social is the primary forum and piano is the subforum.

And that's the problem. If a piano player or a piano buyer has a question, he's not going to come here. He's going to go to Piano World. This is why membership is not growing. They're not looking for a social only forum. They're looking for a special interest group forum. They become coffee room subforum regulars because of the existance of the primary forum.

Quite possible, but if I may cite my personal experience as an example, I came to these places from PW because a WTF'er invited me while I was at PW. Netizens at PW have no way of knowing about WTF, TNCR, or FS without members of those places advertising it, or so it seems to me. Ergo, if we don't go back to PW and post, we don't meet new people to invite over.

I think OT and Qaanaaq are both right.

Maybe it's time to march on PW.
