Thought there would've been a thread on this already. I heard about it on the radio (yesterday?) and thought of the recent 100+ miners rescued in China that we were talking about in the other thread. Looks like this one could be the deadliest since 1970 if the remaining 4 miners aren't rescued:

HOLY CARP!!!
Despite great safety improvements, that's a terribly dangerous job. I was always very grateful that when most of my family members and I mined coal, we could see the sky over our heads, and I always worried about the ones who worked underground. Bosses still try to cut corners, and miners still make simple human errors, and people still die. Waiting to hear word about the fate of your loved one trapped in a mine disaster is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Cheers
Wow, one of those miners who died was set to retire next Tuesday after 30 years. Obviously his death is no more tragic than the others but still, he was so close to having this risky job behind him.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Those poor families suffer so much during this, and for years afterwards.
