A terrible month. I think I am going to have to ban the TV. Every time you turn it on you hear a politician of one party slagging off a politician (or policy) of another party. It's enough to drive you nuts.

Jon, in a previous thread you indicated that "soon Cameron as PM" would contribute to England's decline. I can't say I have much faith in Cameron but do you really think a continuation of Brown would be better? Just interested ...

No not really, in fact I think Britain is ready for a change. That was a spoof thread you may remember.

It certainly turned into a spoof but there seemed to be more than a nugget of truth in the original comment ... I guess I am just a bit slow ;)

I'm with Fish on banning any related TV; we're in for a month of promises which will not be kept made by people I have little or no respect for. None of them are going to say how they really think we ought to tackle the huge debt and the continuing borrowing, or what they are actually planning to do if they gain power.
At least we've pretty much sorted the scumbags' near fraudulent expenses claims.

Any alternative to Brown will be better. With Turkey on the sidelines of the EU, however unlikely, I'm even thinking of voting UKIP.
Every morning the soul is once again as good as new, and again one offers it to one's brothers & sisters in life.

I agree absolutely about thinking of voting UKIP. The problem is, a vote for UKIP is effectively a vote lost in our dumb voting system. If we want to remove Brown, we probably have to vote for David Cameron. My problem is that I live in a safe Lib/Lab seat. There is no point voting for David Cameron (or for UKIP or for any other party) because my vote simply won't count (and we live in a democracy??). To keep labour out, I really have to vote for the lib dems. But I can't stand our local lib dem councillor. So do I vote for the lib dem who I don't like (to keep out labour) or waste my vote by voting for another party or by spoiling my ballot paper (as I have in the last several local elections).

Indeed there was. But the thread itself was a spoof thread on one called 'Is England Drying'.

Ahhh ... I saw that thread, but I thought it was a spoof on the Dying one. England Dying is far more likely than England Drying.

I fear the U.S. is in for similar problems that will have me saying the same thing. I just don't know if it will be in a few years or maybe 10 years down the road.

Unsustainability is the word that comes to mind - and not only will no politician get up and speak the truth about what needs to be done to turn things around, but any politician that does speak the truth will never get elected.

Maybe we need someone that will lie to get elected and then do the hard things that we need.
