"A Jihad for Love", a documentary film about gay Muslims premiered at the 2007 Toronto Film Fesitval. Former republican member of the House of Representatives Michael Huffington was executive producer. I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be gay in a Muslim country. I assumed they must leave not just their country, but their faith; How wrong I was. This deeply moving film shattered my stereotypes. How amazing to hear first hand the stories of gay men and women in Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa and Iran. Most of them remain devoutly dedicated to Islam. A Jihad for Love is streaming on Netflix. |
