Sometimes a daughter is a damn good thing to have

I had a really carppy day.

I was on vacation last week. Every night, I'd go to bed around midnight, and sleep 'til 7:30 or so. Sleep through the night - like a baby.

Last night, I went to bed at 10:30, anticipating my alarm going off at 5 (have to be at work at 6). Of course, of f*cking COURSE, I woke at 3, or so, and couldn't get back to sleep. Toss and turn, toss and turn. Damn.

Got to work and it was a long day. Not a bad day, mind you, I worked with a couple of surgeons whom I consider my friends. Abdominal hysterectomy, emergency appendix, two hernias and a gallbladder. Got done about 5:30 or so.

Mrs. George was feeling kinda carppy this evening too (sinus infection), but daughter #3 was here.

"Is there anything I can get for you guys?"

Heh...

Mrs. George suggested some ice cream from the grocery store, and I suggested sliders for dinner. She hopped in the car and went out.

As I said elsewhere, Mr. Grant and Mr. Castle are with me for dinner tonight.

It could be much worse, couldn't it?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

You raised them right, George. They know when to pitch in and help. Good for you!

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
OK. I feel appropriately guilty for picking on you in the D'Oh for pope thread. You can quit now.

Daughter #3 is turning out to be quite the treasure. (so are you, Steph!).

At age 19 she was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. Now, 4 years later, she's still cancer free. She's a free spirit, takes wonderful care of Mr. Whiskers and Molly.

Last January (2009) she decided that she wanted to quit smoking (after smoking half a pack a day for 2 years) - and she did. Hasn't touched one since.

She's graduating college this year, and she has an apartment about 3 blocks from our place.

Good kid.

She's a treasure.

When I kick the bucket, one of the memories that will come back to haunt me is that of me and Mrs. George telling her that she had cancer...at the age of 19. It was devastating for all of us. We're blessed that it was a one shot type of thing (if you're a 19 year old female and you have to get cancer, papillary carcinoma of the thyroid is the one to get), and that her recover has been speedy.

The maturity that she displays with many issues is remarkable.

The immaturity that she displays with many others is not.

Wow...You all are very lucky - but no question that she has some great DNA from a cool dad.

George, I've got some bad news for you. Your daughter is smoking hot.
