Love it! We did it in our kitchen. Not expensive at all if you DIY! |

I suspect it only works well on a non-textured wall surface. I love it too. |

Do you have some photos or better explanation of what this finish is? That Wiki article was about as clear as mud. Big Al |

I love the look when it's done right. Needs to be subtle, not too many different colours involved, imo. The best one I've seen was in golden ochre tones, and with that waxy finish you were aware of subtle differences in tones as the lighting changed. It just glowed. I'd love to do my dining room like that one day. Maybe bump up my orange into the red tones. Black wrought iron fixtures and candles.....close the drapes and pretend I'm somewhere else. Do it, do it, apple! And then tell me how to get it right.

It's plaster. Very thick but you have to apply it very thin using various sizes of trowel. It was fun to do. I do not remember where we got it. Local supplier I think. |

Oh, it looked very wired until about the 4th or 5th application. Then it started to look awesome. |

Mark, did you apply it over typical textured drywall? My earlier comment had the "faux finish" in mind, not the actual plastering technique. |

So, does it end up looking a lot different than a well done faux finish? And, is it the imperfections in the plaster that give the effect of different colors? |

the particles glow... and the surface glows (if polished - it needn't be).. it's superb - it reflects light and absorbs it at the same time. |

It's beautiful but waaay too much work for this non-dyi-er. I can't even paint right. |

This house has plaster walls. No drywall in this place! Built in 1950. We stripped off wall paper in some places and then washed and sanded and washed and primed. It was a lot of work and it seemed like it would never be done. But when it was done we really liked the way it looked. I did a minimal amount of burnishing which made certain areas have a gloss like appearance. It is a great application for walls that have a defects in the surface. You can just fill and trowel over the defects and the defects actually become part of the character. |
