But unless a church adopts some variation of this kind of immediate aggressive response to accusations of child sexual abuse, the problem will only continue, and maybe even worsen.

What do you think about the argument that essentially says "since the civil authority is not any more successful than the Catholic church when it comes to dealing with child molesters, that we should just leave the Catholic Church's tradition be" (link to example here) ?
