HOLY CARP!!!
I just saw the 1948 film, "Louisiana Story" by Robert Flaherty.
This film was selected by the Library of Congress for restoration and preservation and the print is vivid and like new.

The B&W photography is stunning, with many moments rising to the artistry of greats like Ansel Adams.

It just so friggin good on so many levels.
The film itself is a fascinating project, a propaganda PR piece financed by Standard Oil.
The nighttime oil rig drilling scene is a masterpiece!
It is like the photography of the golden age of Life Magazine in motion.

I got the DVD from Netflix.
Besides the film the DVD has several other offerings that are riveting.

Everyone, please rent this DVD.

Added to the queue, thanks.

BTW, a fascinating documentary with great music -- O Thou Transcendent: The Life of Ralph Vaughan Williams. I've mentioned it here before.

I especially love documentaries on musicians, composers, et al., so please let me know of any recommendations.
