HOLY CARP!!!

Oh, and Sue, I thought the same about the short stories. I have a big collection of Mark Twain short stories that is very compact, that I'm considering. |

High Fidelity was a great book, Opti. I'm a big fan of Nick Hornby. |

It is! I have it in English, too. The funny doesn't so much translate well in Spanish. I just cannot read it without visualizing the movie, though. Saw the movie first (have seen it at least a dozen times), and the script seems to follow the book very closely. I can't read it without hearing Jack Black's voice.

ZOOOOOM!
|
See I thought the movie characters were pretty different. I didn't think Dick in the book was all that timid and lame, and in the book I thought Rob was a bit of a douchebag. |

I thought Rob was also a bit of a douchebag in the movie, too. Well, to me it seems to follow pretty closely to the book, but it's also hard to say because I'd seen the movie so many times before reading the book. My reading has movie pollution! |

I honestly think it's better if you (the general you) didn't do that. The same thing has happened to me with books after I've seen the movies and it totally sucks. It's like the movie deprives you of your ability (hell, responsibility) to become an active participant in the development of the story. It doesn't let you paint your own settings, create your own characters or give them a voice. It retards your imagination. No thanks. More and more I'm making a conscious effort to never watch a movie based on a book until I've read the original first. |

For sure. I'd rather be pissed off at a movie for getting the characters wrong than have the book tainted forever by the movie images.Always read the book first, says I.

Oh, I agree. But sometimes I find out about a movie being based on a book after I've already seen it. It can't always be helped. |

yeah but you're not an anal librarian. I remember when Slumdog Millionaire came out; I actually ordered the book (we didn't have it anymore) so I could read it before seeing the movie. Even though I was dying to see the movie. And sometimes the rule doesn't work. As in Julie and Julia. There is no reason to read the book.
