Quick question: Salt in wound?

Salt water IS good. I guess if I were going to put salt in a wound, I would use sea salt, instead of iodized salt, though. No particular reason behind this... Just a personal preference.

Alcohol has a very dessicating affect, and yeah, it does sting a lot. Hydrogen peroxide is good. It also softens and "fizzes away" old scabs and dried blood. (We used to use it to clean up puddles of blood in the ER/OR.)

I just rub some dirt in it and get back in the game.

HOLY CARP!!!
If I'm outside with the horses, it's good ol' dirt for me, too. When I get the chance, I pour peroxide over it. Cheap, and I like watching the nasty crap being fizzed away! It's a lot more fun to use than alcohol. If swimming, I too learned to just stay in the water for a few. Much better than getting sand in a foot cut.
And how are you today?

I have heard that sugar is an emergency antiseptic -- any truth to that?
Not sure about sugar, but comb honey does have some antibiotic properties and was traditionally used as an ointment on wounds- burns in particular.

Hydrogen peroxide is great for wounds, infections. Doesn't sting like alcohol, and you can pour it on freely (minor owies), repeatedly. It's dirt cheap. I've found it to help speed up healing. Great stuff. I've always got a bottle in my first aid cupboard at home.
+1. Used that for my bicycle injuries. Worked pretty decent.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Manuka Honey is amazing stuff... Expensive, but worth it. We always have some of it around. It works good on burns, wounds, dry skin, and taken internally, it's an organic antibiotic, soothes sore throats, and fights internal infections.

Sugar works and was commonly used as late as WWI to treat wounds.
I think it was mentioned in the Mark Walberg movie about the sniper, I just didn't know if it was true or just Hollywood.
