R.I.P., oh good and trusty microwave. We will miss your beep-beep when you completed your assigned task. We will miss the hum of your fan.

You served us as newlyweds. You traveled with us as we moved several times to different states. You took care of us through the infancy of our daughter, when the veggies had to be just a certain temperature, not hotter or colder than what the taste buds of a small child would enjoy. You made the water just the perfect temperature for untold numbers of loaves of bread and pans of buns. You popped microwave popcorn in the wee hours.

It is with great sadness that we will affix the orange landfill sticker to you, showing that we paid for the refuse hauling company to take you away to your final resting place. May you find peace and rest there among the other appliances that have met similar fates.

We will always be glad to have had you in our family of appliances.

The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

We never even had a chance to try those with this microwave. :weeping:

I also retired one, just a week ago. I took mine to the local refuse collection site. They wanted $20 to take it. I took it back home and put it in a bag half full of trash, put more trash on top and took it back and they charged me $1.25 for the bag. The bag went into the same dumpster they would have put the microwave in for $20.

I understand, brenda. :)

We've had our panasonic since 1990 (the year our son was born; I bought it so I could nuke his homemade organically grown baby food in little plastic containers  ).

It still works, although it seems a bit slower to me. I will miss it, the day it has to go. It has reheated many a cup of forgotten coffee over the years.

I will make sure and do the gummy bear thing before it goes. And/or the pickle thing too.

Brenda, that microwave oven looks just like one I saw the other day on ebay that was a collectible artifact. Big bucks it was going for.

lb, this microwave is a beast. The picture is not exactly like our dear departed microwave. Ours is actually larger. It wouldn't even fit in one of our garbage bags. nor would the bag carry the weight.

This beast is from 25 years ago, back when microwaves were really big in size. It was a wedding present from hubby's parents. I can't believe it lasted this long.

It died once before, just last year. It was dead for a few days, then we had a thunderstorm and the power went out for a few minutes. When the power surged back on again, the microwave came to life again. It was like a miracle.

We called it the Frankenwave. "It's alive! It's alive!" :lol2:

No, Frank, we'll never get to do that with the Frankenwave either. :weeping:

No, it's a JCPenney. I have no idea what company manufactured it. Ours has a touch pad for all the settings. Very high tech for 1985.

I'm still hoping for another Frankenwave resurrection, but it's the wrong time of year for a thunderstorm.
