I know a guy that makes his living getting text books in Canada and selling them here. He says he gets 2-3 times what he paid for them, and the students are still getting new textbooks for less than what they would be paying for used ones.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I'm not at all surprised.

That freecreditreport.com always mystified me. They make it sound like you can buy a more expensive car if only you know your credit score. what a load of crap.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

They're almost correct. You can buy a more expensive car if your credit is good, and I suppose a good first step in correcting your credit is to find out your score.

But yeah it's bullsh!t.

I'm not bothered at all by the markup on popcorn. It's about the only way a movie theater can make any money. Hollywood has really created a stranglehold on theaters. Even with the huge markup on popcorn, most theaters struggle or barely make any money.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Name-brand painkillers - 60% markup

Are the generics really the same?

An even bigger rip off is the market on grade school and high school text books -- it didn't make the list because it all comes out of tax dollars against school district budgets -- but Scott-Forsman, MacMillian, Follett, Glencoe, etc are completely raping the country.

Man...texting really pi$$es me off.

I don't subscribe to a texting plan. A cell phone is to talk to people. You need to talk to me, call me. If I'm interested in talking to you, I'll answer it.

My cell company charges $0.25 for inbound and outbound text messages. I don't text anyone, so I've got the outbound problem solved. But people text me crap and it costs me a quarter each time. And there is no way to stop inbound messages. I called and asked. I've asked people to stop texting me and they still do it. Damn it. :mad2:

How? Books are normally as much as 40% more expensive here than in the US.

Hotel movies -- I've never bought one, I use my iPod/iPhone for watching movies. My brother, who travels a lot for business, bought the cable to hook up the iPhone/iPod to hotel TVs. He said some hotels don't let you change inputs however so he also bought a very small universal remote for a few dollars.

Books were never really expensive for me. Never had to buy piano books from the bookstore, our theory books lasted us a year each, and sightsinging and dictation didn't need any books.
And how are you today?
