Last month you were talking about doing some kitchen remodeling. Any news on that front? Inquiring (or enquiring, for the Brits among us) minds want to know... |

We have refined our plans to two variations, depending on what kinds of numbers we get from the builder about rebuilding a porch that used to be on the kitchen side of the house. One plan is with the porch, the other is without. We also have a third option of having the porch space become part of the kitchen, and surprisingly, that one is not likely to be worth the extra cost. The porch option plan is our current favorite. We met with a kitchen designer and have narrowed down our cabinet style selection. We need the builder info to move forward with the designer, too. I've continued to box up stuff from the kitchen and haul some to the basement. I have a place in the dining room that will eventually become a makeshift kitchen during the nastiest part of the process. We hope to keep the fridge and the wall ovens operational for some time yet as we work on the opposite side of the room. Keep in mind we will be doing part of the work ourselves. The builder will frame and enclose the porch, if we decide to do the porch, but much of the rest of the work will be done by hubby and yours truly. We are experienced! (Flexes muscles and stands with hands on hips with feet spaced exactly two feet apart, and jaw is tilted slightly upward.) We have done some major home projects together, and we are still married. We got two new boilers installed to replace an aging one for our hat water heat. We also replaced the hot water heater. |

Also still reading about kitchen projects from publications we like, such as Taunton's books. Hubby subscribes to their magazines, Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking. They always seem to know when we are on the verge of a project and have articles with timely info for us. Oh yeah, it's just for us.

Love the Taunton books, both the ones that discuss design and the do-it-yourself varieties. Please post pics as work progresses! |
