HOLY CARP!!!

Kenny, Mark, other camera buffs: How much longer do you think before film cameras are phased out? Film is so hard to find nowadays, and I know a couple camera companies have become strictly digital. I'm still trying to decide if I want to bring my fairly decent SLR to Paraguay, where it is very likely to become a victim of theft or excessive weather conditions. I would like to upgrade to a digital SLR when I get back, which is why I'm considering the risk. If I don't take this camera, all I'll have is a cheap digital, and it would be nice to have good pictures while I'm there. . . |

Not clear on what the question is. Is the question, 'Since it is going to be stolen anyway should I take my film camera"? Anyway, I have no idea how long film will be available. Kodachrome was just discontinued. I'd just buy a used cheap old point and shoot digital on Craigslist, or two, for the trip. I bought my first digital after returning from a pic-intensive trip and paying $200 or $300 for processing. ![]() |

Nah, just wondering if there is any discussion in the camera community about the future of film cameras. I guess it's unlikely they will just cease to exist anytime soon, but if the availability of film keeps getting worse I can't see how they will go on much longer. |

They'll be around for a while longer, just the film (etc) will become even more scarce. |

Regarding your trip, you may want to look into getting a inexpensive point-n-shoot. Not only can they just fit in your pocket, but you can swap out SD cards so that in case it does get stolen, you wont necessarily lose your pics. This is what I've done while traveling. |
