It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

On an unrelated note, did anybody watch "Predator"? I'm always laughing my ass off when the predator has to press buttons on his own arm to start the self destruction.

HOLY CARP!!!
Wasn't there a kid in one of the X-Men movies whose sole power was the ability to change TV channels by blinking his eyes?

Now we can all be like him!

Sweet.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

Even dumber is the fact that it has a countdown. I would think that if you've made the decision to self-destruct, you'd want it to happen immediately, rather than give your opponent a chance to escape.

I always thought precisely the same thing. It should have been:

1. Evil Laugh.

2. Boom.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

I'm a fan of the modified digital clock countdown, myself.

"Sonofabitch is dug in deeper than an Alabama tick!"

That's high art, sir. They don't make films of that caliber anymore.

By the same token, it always amuses me when the James Bond villain does not simply kill James Bond but instead always prepares some evil machinery which is supposed to kill him while James is alone.

This is news? I've been waving my hand to change channels for years. I wave my hand, my honey switches the channel. (most of the time)

No, you still use the digital countdown, just set the device to go off with a 1:13 still left on the timer. Just to screw with the hero. He thinks he has plenty of time, get's the casing off and BLAM!
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I will not include a self-destruct mechanism unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary, it will not be a large red button labelled "Danger: Do Not Push". The big red button marked "Do Not Push" will instead trigger a spray of bullets on anyone stupid enough to disregard it. Similarly, the ON/OFF switch will not clearly be labelled as such.
