I liked it, but I'm told it's offensive.

I haven't seen it yet. A few too many things on my plate just now.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I'd say that's incredibly stupid and ridiculous, but I can't.

I've felt that way or worse about some of the books I've read.

EDIT
Okay, some of these nutjobs people have mentioned suicidal thoughts after seeing the movie. Can't say I've ever been affected that bad by entertainment. But I've read some things that monopolized my thoughts for days or weeks after finishing.

I'm going to see it, maybe this week. Seems to be a "movie best seen IN a theater" type movie.

I've seen it.

It is worth looking for the phantasy world that it presents, but the story is quite disappointing and predictable. It is just the good old Indian vs Cowboys story, the guy who eventually changes the front to fight for the "noble savages" - a story that has been told many dozen times. Change a few details and you have a film version of Karl May's Winnetou I. 'The last Samurai' was also quite similar, albeit with a slightly more convincing story. It is a pity they did not think a little more about the story line.

Many of the scenes and plot details were actually somewhat embarrasing. Such as these "USB plugs" which the natives used to connect to their "network". Or the notion of earning the right to break in a wild horse dragon.

Thanks Klaus.
I'm not interested in yet another version of the same movie, with the latest Gee Whizzes.

I think I got tired of the formula back in the 70s.

It was allright.

4 stars for the scenery, 2 stars for the story and acting.

It won't win many Academy awards, special effects maybe.

Now I just got done watching Inglorious Bastards last night. Now that was a very good movie! Enjoyed the hell out of that one.

Klaus makes some good points, but this is a movie that MUST be seen in the theatre and is one of the very few that should be seen in 3-D. This movie is not about the script, it is about the spectacle. And the spectacle works pretty well, albeit you sometimes felt you were inside a very, very good videogame.

It is SF in the Larry Niven tradition, with a totally different, but believable world. That alone makes it worth a look.

Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 82. I think that's about right.

I agree with that. It worked very well in 3D.

I watched it last Friday. I liked it in general, what I saw of it.

I actually give it a thumbs down on the 3-D. Maybe it's the best yet, and it was certainly utilized better than the last two I saw (Up and Coraline). Still, it's not like yer plugged into the matrix. The actions scenes were so fast and jerky that it didn't work for me. The times it worked (and was cool) it was distracting to me because I was thinking about the effect and not the story. Worse, after about 30 minutes at the beginning I had to start shutting my eyes because I was getting nauseous. I missed huge stretches of the "Dances with Wolves" middle. I got to see a fair amount of the final battle stuff but had to pretty much keep my eyes closed the rest of the way or I was going to hurl.

I'd like to see it again in 2-D, sitting in the way back of the theater, before it is gone.

As for the story, it was fine with me. Maybe I was expecting too much liberal hard sell but only the comment about "terror" and one other zinger I felt was aimed at GWB, the former administration or conservative/religious types in general were over the top. I am generally able to suspend belief in a Sci-Fi flick so it wasn't that hard. If you want to get all geeky/nerdy, I don't think such a future would ever happen. If we ever discover a foreign world with sentient beings of any kind, I am not sure we'll even agree to go for a visit. I think our future will be much too "prime directive" to even go have a look see.

I liked it for the scenery and spectacle. It was a lot of fun, and I agree that it's a movie to be seen in the theater.

We saw it last week. Pitt and Roth were both excellent. The typical Tarantino-I-get-to-make-movies-about-my-adolescent-fantasies is getting pretty old.

Had to move to a seat most of the way back. Was sitting in my usual row. The 3D was bothering my eyes too much.
Great technology. Would like to see it used in a great movie.

hell yeah, she was hot!

I've heard that on the DVD, the sex scene is actually portrayed, rather than just implied. Hope to see that.

Christoph Waltz, who played Major Landa, "the Jew Hunter", was fabulous as well. He should be nominated for best supporting actor.

I heard Cameron on NPR a couple of weeks ago. He's open-sourced the technology, and will show anyone how to use it. He wants them to improve the process so that, the next film he makes, he doesn't have to do all the technology development work on his own.
