Well I'll be up for the next couple hours stretching, doing formwork and other stuff while checking in here between sets, so I got time for anything. Your call!

We watched Ferris' Buehler's Day Off tonight. It was daughter's first time to see it. She really enjoyed it (she's 15 now.) I suggested she not get any wild ideas.

Did you ever have a Ferris Buehler Day Off from school??

The cat is incredibly naughty at this time of the night. She goes around the house pushing anything she can onto the floor. She knows I hate that!

The Buehler movie reminded me why my students always expect me to look like Ben Stein. On the first day of class, they are so surprised to have a woman teaching them econ.

Nothing that epic, but I've had decent hookie days, yeah. The best ones were when some friends of mine and I would skip, find a ride out of town and ski for 'bout 10 hours.

These days just about all I can get is days off of work so I can get other crap done that I can't get done when I'm at work. <_<

(BTW, Ferris Buehler's Day Off was my grandfather's favorite movie. Good pick says I.)

I recall leaving for an early lunch one day when the rest of my senior high school government class went to the cafeteria to listen to candidates for city elections. The weather was warm, and my motorcycle was waiting for me in the parking lot. The class went down one hall, and I went down another.

The next day the teacher asked us to write a paragraph about one candidate. I chose the one who had run for everything from mayor to dog catcher. He had never won any elected office, but Willard was always on the ballot for something.

I said that the community owed him a huge thanks for his public service. Every time he ran for some seat, the community would rally to find someone to run against him. Heaven forbid if Willard should win! He generated more civic mindedness than any other person in town, and made sure that every seat got filled.

The teacher selected my essay to read to the rest of the class, and I got an A. :lol2:

There was also a time not of skipping class, but getting back in without being counted as late. It was my math class right after lunch during my junior year of high school. I had parked my motorcycle in the lot near the front entrance, but I realized I was not going to make it on time going through the main doors, to my locker with my helmet, and then downstairs to class.

Luckily, the classroom faced onto the courtyard near the front of the school, just on the other side of the greenhouse. I went down the slope by the greenhouse and straight to the windows of the room. They were open on that lovely spring day. The teacher was in the hall. I handed my helmet to a friend. Then I crawled in through the window and quickly sat in my seat.

It was very much a Ferris moment, because the teacher rounded the corner into the room just as I opened my book. He had been watching for me in the hall. The look on his face ............ priceless.

How did you get away with being gone for ten hours??

Your parents' response?

Oh they were incredibly pissed. Grounded for months. Totally worth it. I snuck out a couple of times under punishment, never got caught. :thumb:

I was too afraid of my dad to pull an all day thing like that. He was going through quite a phase during my early to mid teens. I stayed away from home quite a bit by going to school, working, doing stuff for church, and volunteering. I did anything to be away from home sometimes. Those were not good years at home. My folks almost split.

One night in high school, knowing my folks would be out of town for the weekend, I had a houseful a few friends over for some serious boozing a movie marathon. We pretty much tore the whole place up. My parents weren't due back until Sunday but Saturday morning they rolled up the driveway.

By that time I knew the exact pitch of my parents' car and their driving style, so I knew it was them pulling up and that I had at most, 15 seconds before they opened the door. Luckily, my friends already left in the morning but I was still recovering on the living room couch. I took absolutely every piece of evidence I could find in my hands, dumped it into the walk in closet in the hallway (we used it for storage and wasn't at all used daily), in a box that held gloves, umbrellas and such. A half second after I slammed an empty pizza box in the trash can in the kitchen, they walked in. I found smaller traces of the party here and there in the kitchen and discarded them as my parents were unpacking, but they were too busy with groceries and never caught on. Later that night I cleaned out the hallway closet.

'bout eight months later I had no excuse whatsoever for why our gloves and scarves smelled of "animal piss" (horribly stale, dried out beer I'm assuming) but eh, I chalk it up as a win since nothing else became of it.

Yeah, I can relate to that. I was not at all a model child in high school. I recognize that I was indeed a total asshole sometimes back then but I wasn't entirely to blame for that, either.

You are a Ferris Buehler!

I'd have never gotten away with that, not in a million years. My folks did not drink at that point, but they did in younger days. And my dad's father was an abusive drinker. My dad would have smelled it. Unless the pizza odor masked the booze smell, I would have been toast.

Nahh, not at all. Our shenanigans were usually not at all elaborate and I'd say I got away with 30% of the crap I pulled. But truth be told, those were the big ones. Sometimes I'd pull more minor stunts throughout the week, just to create the appearance of normalcy, while I waited for the Big Plan over the weekend. :thumb:

Yes, my parents very effectively used fear as a motivational device. It kept me out of some trouble, I suppose. We'll never know now, will we? ;)

Thanks for the visit! I'm sleepy enough to go to bed now. Cross your fingers that I stay asleep. None of that waking at 3:30 nonsense, eh?
