White House Adviser Briefed in October on Underwear Bomb Technique

Obama Got Pre-Christmas Intelligence Briefing About Terror Threats to 'Homeland'

MI5 knew of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s UK extremist links

A bit more specific than "Bin-Laden Determined to Attack US," I'd say.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

George, what should Obama have done differently?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Excellent question. Nonspecific threat against nonspecific target with nonspecific date. I don't know what he should have done differently. Do you?

No, hence the question. I also have to admit being unaware of the facts of the case - I was cut off from phone, TV, and internet from 25-Dec until yesterday. Didn't this guy board the plane in Lagos?

I also have a relatively unpopular belief that there's a limit to how much we should do to defend against people blowing up planes. 9-11 taught us that planes can be used as missiles, that indeed we should defend against. But 'just' blowing up a plane is like shooting up a crowded McDonalds at lunch time. If we heard someone was going to do that, would we really install metal detectors at every fast food restaurant? I wouldn't think so.

In my view airline safety should be about securing the cockpit.

(I'll repeat, I realize my views on this issue put me in a minority)
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I'm with you in that minority. You can't mitigate every risk, and sometimes the risk is less expensive than the measures to mitigate it would cost.

+1

There are basically an infinite number of ways for terrorists to strike. It is impossible to protect against all of them.
Let us begin anew, remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness.

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
The government has to be successful every time. The terrorist only has to be successful once.
