Here are one person's predictions about what he thinks will happen in 2010. Predictions for 2010 I have to admit that my crystal ball and turban are in storage right now and I just try to make it day to day, but I'm always interested in hearing what others are seeing for our collective future. Anyone else want to put their bets on the table? Remember, the search function is up and running and today's predictions may be fodder for discussion on Jan 2, 2011. Unless, of course, you predict armageddon and are right. |

I might be going out on a limb here, but I think that the next Harry Potter film will come out, and be remarkably similar to the books, but with more action. |

Going further on that limb, I predict there will be a tacky made-for-tv movie about the rise and fall of a certain American sports celebrity. Oh, and probably a book, too. |

Sarah Palin will be revealed as the other woman, in a menage a trois with both Tiger Woods and Elin wosserface. Pictures will reach the internet of their three-in-a-bed expoits. Quirt will spontaneously combust. In a move very reminiscent of that bit from the James Bond movie with Mr. Big in New Orleans, Tiger Woods will peel off his face to reveal Barack Obama inside. |

Millions will be made, and spent in the pursuit of more info (pictures, mostly) of the above, and the American economy will fully recover because of it. So it goes. |

A sheep will be found in the Oval Office. Eyebrows will be raised, but nobody will quite be able to summon up the courage to ask the obvious question. |

Predictions for a single year are always hard. Bill Gates once said that we overestimate the amount of change we'll see in 18 months, but underestimate what we'll see in 10 years. I made a series of predictions, some pretty bold, some pretty boring, in 2005. I got a few spectacularly right ($75+ oil, Russian invasion of a former Soviet republic, Putin finding a way to stay in power despite term limitation, managed reval of the Renminbi) and a few spectacularly wrong (fed funds rate at 7.5%, a 'soft landing' for the housing boom masked by inflation, another biotech boom) . (edit to add - the above were 4 year predictions, for Bush's 2nd term) Let me give this some thought, and I'll see if I can come up with some interesting ones for 2010. |

Technology predictions: Bill Gates will still be very, very rich. People will still be rude about Windows - particularly Mac users. Mac users will continue to tell us just how damn kool they are. An Apple commercial will come out featuring The Fonz talking to some dude in a turtleneck sweater, which will unwittingly demonstrate the point quite nicely. |

I predict Mr. D'Oh got it wrong, and two Harry Potter films will come out covering the material in only 1 book - the final book. Other predictions - the Mayan's got it wrong and there will be a 2013. |

Here are some predictions who's odds I'll put at 75%. If I get three of four right I'll be happy (with my prediction accuracy, if not the events): - Oil again over $100 - One or more high-profile municipal insolvencies, resulting in either default or a government bailout. - GOP picks up house and senate seats, but Democrats keep their majority - Unemployment drops below 8.5% as recovery gathers steam. Here are some less likely predictions who's odds I'll put at 25%. Maybe one of the four happens? - Israel attacks Iranian nuclear installations - A US treasury auction fails (is undersubscribed) - Murdoch finds a successful model for online newspapers, NYT and WaPo follow his lead - Deficit falls back under the 1T level inherited from Bush. |
