Which should I choose as my service anniversary award?; Howard Miller or Frank Lloyd Wright?

I've just reached 35 years of service with my employer. We are awarded "stuff" for each 5 years of service.
I've narrowed it down to a Howard Miller clock or a Frank Lloyd Wright globe. I prefer classic or traditional rather than contemporary or modern.
I've been wanting a globe but the prices put me off. On the other hand, I always appreciate a nice time piece.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts about which would you choose for yourself and why?

Here are links to each.

I'd take the globe simply because we've already got a wall clock and a grandfather clock, but we don't have a globe. I've always wanted a cool looking globe like that one. Go for the globe!!

Clock, if you don't have one. I have a wall clock that I built, and the chime is a nice thing to have, even at night.

The globe, though attractive, is a dust catcher and clutter-maker. Something I don't need (more of) in my house.

Take the clock.

That globe is the crappiest Wrightean knock off. It would be out of place in this room, which is in the Price Tower.

That's what I'd do. Pick the one I'd think would give me the best price on eBay.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I'm a big fan of FLW, but that globe adaptation turns me completely off. There really isn't much about it that's Wrightian except that Wright used hexagonal shapes in many of his designs, but he didn't exactly patent the shape. Plus the sphere/hexagon juxtaposition is just jarring to me. I'd go with the clock.

I agree with IT & Dewey. The globe is cr*p. If you like the clock, want the clock, then take that.

I'm such a rebel - I'd refuse both. I'd much prefer a hand written letter from my boss.

Man, for 35 yrs at any job, you should choose your ow reward. That's a long time.

Congrats PattyP btw .. :)

My boss offered an incentive to us....something like a favorite lunch or chocolate..I don't remember which...I told him that should it be awarded to me I would rather he made a donation to my favorite charity...www.montanadeluz.org...He was fine with that. :)

Some one among a group of folks I work with had a recent passing in the family. We did a collection to send flowers. Though at the end, he just advised that we send the money, and any extra that people wants to contribute, to a charity instead. :)

You know, IT, if they had just made the globe a globe, with a circular surround, I think it would have worked in almost any environment - contemporary, prairie, traditional, etc. But, by trying to bring the worst best of both worlds (pun definitely intended), they got nothing.

Yep, or even if they had done a geodesic globe, which would have been mid century FLW/Bucky Fuller. But that lower base is really bad also.

Next time you're at Art Institute, look for the musical score written and calligraphed by Wright. It's a beautiful piece of art, but the lyrics are a hoot. I have no idea how it sounds.

Taking cash is not an option; it is not offered to employees. I am, however, allowed to have a dinner at the place of my choice with the people of my choice for up to $120. I pay up front and the company reimburses me.

I'm leaning toward the clock.

Jon and I are in rare agreement...that should count for something. Besides, can the makers of the wall clock make an offer like the globe manufacturer:

I'd go for the globe. I'm not crazy about that particular globe (does it have to be that exact model?), but a good globe is a wonderful thing to have, and like you said, you've been wanting one.

I got an anniversary Howard Miller clock in 1987 - still going strong.

But I have replaced the battery a couple times.
