I Owe It All To John D'Oh

Yes, and still enthusiastic, as to national ID. Less enthusiastic about a mandatory background check. Not opposed, but not enthusiastic. And that's not a necessary element of a national ID anyway ... we all have state IDs and passports, and none of us went through background checks for those. |

HOLY CARP!!!

been discussing all this with my daughter...she has lots of stories... her 2 biggest faux pas'... one of her interviewee's, had a an english diplomatic passport, she went through the usual rigamarole, and at the end said...ok john (not the real name) you r clear...the guy looked at her as if she had leprosy...my daughter, as in typical israeli fashion, will use a first name casually...but in this case, she seemed to have left out the guys prefix.."lord" and the guys aide sort of let her know u dont call that guy john to his face and stay alive. oh well. another mix up when she was interviewing a couple, and the "man" was skinheaded and wearing very male clothes, and did the whole conversation with him/her in masculine gender hebrew. the passenger stayed quiet and at the end said...thats all fine, now ask me all the questions in the correct gender. another aspect she told me that i find interesting is that the system is constantly checking itself, to the tune of several times a day....if an employee gets a profile wrong, they are given again teaching and training to prevent recurrences. its a continual learning process. also the work schedule is specifically made to allow students to study...the biggest pool is university students, they pay reasonable for a student job, and basically this keeps daughter more or less self sufficient, with occasional help from me. anyway...she thinks the europeans are the most polite. she loves working the lufthansa flights, (klaus?) says the germans are the most patient and understanding. worst flights? nigeria (lots of pilgrims) their passports are all hand written on cruddy paper, the passengers have no inkling of whats going on, and have lousy hygeine. she is getting a real world education without even taking off to fly.
