I've been thinking of trying these. hey are recommended for barefoot runners - supposed to allow a more natural (barefoot) stride.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I ran in my younger youth and would have said "no way", but I hunted around and found this review of a similar shoe:

I'm intrigued. Definitely report back if you decide to try them.

ZOOOOOM!
A guy in my Wing Chun class uses 'em. He says they take a lot of getting used to but he likes 'em, not for running but for hiking and working out in the weight room, when you need the grip on your feet.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Yes, exactly.

The thinking is this: we can run without injuries barefoot. It’s our natural mode of transportation and by wearing shoes we are weakening our bodies.

However, running barefoot in Brooklyn is a bad idea.

is the story

It makes sense to me, I think. Like the author I buy the most padded running shoes available. They feel like wonderful big fluffy pillows on your feet when they are new.

But according to barefoot advocates they allow and encourage, poor posture/technique. I think that is true because with all that padding you can throw your foot down any old way and it feels OK. If you are forced onto the balls of your feet it causes a different, less jarring, stride.

So I was thinking of going barefoot, but after years of pampering it would be tough to do. Maybe the VFF is a good start.

If you try them, write us about them Copper.
I've seen them advertised.
Kind of cool, eh?

Hey, Copper! Did you ever buy the shoes?

More on why they are cool:

Not yet, but in the daily workout I'm spending more time on the balls of my feet and less on the heels.

It will take a while to be able to run with the barefoot stride. I'm taking it slow.

I've seen this story on TV and in the paper over the last few weeks.

We'll know it's real when Nike, Adidas and New Balance go on the attack.
