CATHOLICJEDI PRESENTS: POLYPHONY WARS Cute video -- but once you've seen the first 60 seconds it's pretty predictable from there. this is much prettier palestrina polyphony here: Kyrie from Missa Papae Marcelli (ca. 1560) Nice to listen to during the holidays. . . just think -- the council of trent almost got rid of polyphony because it made the words hard to understand. . . then we'd be just like everyone else -- monotonous monophony and simple imitation. |

That was beautiful John (the second one). What a strange juxtaposition, to think of the how barbaric people could be to each other back then, placed against the back drop of beautiful worship. Maybe God was so all-encompassing to them it made atrocity between humans seem insignificant. |
