I've never really listened to either. They'll both be in town soon and was thinking of going to one of them. Who would you choose?

Depends on what you like, music wise. Both are excellent. TSO will be more rock oriented (think guitars, driving beat), but with a full orchestra. Mannheim Steamroller has a more progressive sound than your typical symphony, but they're not as in your face.

If I had to choose, I'd try to find a way to see both! And if I could only choose one, I'd go with Mannheim, but only because I've seen TSO more recently.

Mannheim Steamroller:
I've seen them three times, love them. I have about four of their C.D.'s.

I would go see Transsiberian Steamroller. That would be some show.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

HOLY CARP!!!
Been listening to Mannheim Steamroller since about 1979. Fresh Aire III was the first album I bought in 79.

Great group.

Transsiberian Orch is good too. But I prefer the Steamroller probably because I am more familiar with them.

For some reason Mannheim Steamroller make me think of Grand Funk Railroad. A quick Google tells me that I'm quite a long way off base. I tend to have a rather visceral reaction to Christmas music.
