Anger

Anger itself isn't the issue. It can be both positive and destructive element. It's loss of reason that's to be avoided. Acting unconsciously without regard for the consequences is the real danger. Whether those actions are motivated by anger, hatred, or love; all can be equally destructive.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

If I may be permitted a stupid and blowhardy quote, I'll submit that anger is logic's weapon (or maybe just self-interest's weapon). We have to be naturally pretty docile to have evolved and thrived to this point as social creatures, but at the same time we had to be competitve in a merciless sort of way. Without anger that would never have happened. If we hadn't had anger as a weapon then the next semi smart species that did, would have pwned us. We would have been all forgiving and understanding as they bashed our heads in with rocks.

It's harder to employ anger usefully these days but it's still a good tool in the right situations. Especially for those in power, anger makes people listen. I guess parents would have some thoughts about that.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Hi Brenda, et al.!

I come by on occasion and "lurk" a bit, just always so busy (too damn busy). TNCR is always good for a smile, food for thought, or just seeing how people are gett'n along.

This is what will eventually happen to liberals. Sure, we're smarter than you guys, but at the point when you evolve enough to pick up the rock and then not forget what you're holding it for within 5 seconds, we're done.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Heh. Goes well with the avatar, eh?

Hi Rainman.

This is a good thread.

Being so forgetful and scattered as I am now, my anger doesn't stay around long. My kid knows this, takes advantage of this. Damn him. He's just like I was as a kid.

I like what Dewey said about guilt and anger. For me this is often true. I've got to get beyond my guilt.

Mark, you're a good person. Don't forget that you are your own person, aging as all humans do. Our lives are so short. We need some sense of fulfillment outside our roles as parents. Goal setting beyond parenting helps dissipate some of my anger, some of my guilt. It took a few personal crises to figure that out.

Everyone is different. There are no right answers.
