Tiger Woods cancels tournament appearance
November 30, 2009 3:32 p.m. EST

(CNN) -- Tiger Woods has canceled plans to attend his own golf tournament in California because of injuries he suffered near his Florida home early Friday, the pro golfer said in a statement Monday.
"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week," Woods said of the Chevron World Challenge in California. "I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there."
Woods suffered minor injuries in a vehicle accident early Friday in his luxury neighborhood near Orlando, Florida, according to a police accident report.
Woods is a four-time winner of the tournament, which helps raise money for Tiger Woods Foundation programs.

Chevron officials responded to news of Woods' absence, without mentioning him by name.

That will keep everyone guessing.

If the injuries were minor, they wouldn't keep him from attending his own tournament, even if he couldn't play. He almost certainly has a sponsorship commitment.

More evidence that he doesn't want to be seen in public while the scratches on his face can still be identified as caused by human fingernails.

Well, it looks as if Woods might be otherwise engaged during his golf tournament.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the Florida Highway Patrol will move to have charges filed against Tiger Woods in connection with the accident last Friday.

We are told the FHP will announce the case is against Tiger -- not his wife. We do not know if the FHP will arrest Tiger or refer the case to prosecutors.

We know FHP was investigating whether Tiger was driving his SUV under the influence.

Tiger was drifting in and out of consciousness after the accident. As we first reported, his wife gave paramedics two bottles of prescription meds she says Tiger had taken though she did not know when. There was no evidence of alcohol.

Tiger Woods' car crash is really gonna cost him ... $164.

The FHP said the investigation is complete and it will not seek any search warrants for his medical records.

So Mr. Evans was right after all. There was a reason for an investigation.

I guess the question now is will he fight this in court?

Don't sound so surprised.

I still think there was a sufficient basis to seek a warrant for a medical examination.

Apparently, it isn't over until it's over. And it isn't necessarily over.

A spokeswoman for the patrol would not say whether the police were trying to obtain a search warrant for Woods’s medical records from Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Fla., where Woods was treated after the accident. The records could shed light on how Woods was injured.

“Contrary to various media reports, the Florida Highway Patrol has not made any comments regarding the details of the ongoing crash investigation involving Tiger Woods as it relates to medical information, or any other aspect of this investigation,” a spokeswoman, Sgt. Kim Montes, said.

Leesa Bainbridge, the communications director for the Orange County clerk of courts, said Monday afternoon that “there is no search warrant recorded with our office at this point.”

Dan Yates, a spokesman for Health Central, said he could not comment on whether the highway patrol had requested Woods’s medical records.

That may be yesterday's news.

"With the issuance of this citation, the Florida Highway Patrol has concluded the investigation," FHP troop commander Cindy Williams said without taking any questions.
aid Spokeswoman Kim Montes: "The FHP is not pursing criminal charges in this matter, nor is there any testimony or any other evidence to support any other charges of any kind, other than the charge of careless driving."

Montes added that police investigators had "insufficient evidence" to seek a subpoena of Woods's medical records and said "there are no claims of domestic violence by any individual."

The announcement brings to close at least the legal portion of an incident that has captivated many in the nation because of its curious circumstances and Woods's refusal to appear in public or meet with investigators.
