What bugs me is people taking language way too seriously. ;)
Well I get paid to do it and I'm going to attempt to go back to school to improve, so please be patient with me, I can't help it. ^_^
That's a good thing. We need people like you to save the language.

Someone wanted to put up a poster at the library the other day, offering after school tutoring. In all subjects. A lite snack would be included.

Yes, I said something. :nerd:
Well, a poster advertising a service of that nature is one thing, but I don't understand why people get upset about words or short forms used in everyday casual conversation.

I avoid fringe words that send people to the dictionary.
I like small words, since I want to communicate effectively not impressively.
So, you eschew obfuscation, right?

I love the word "meme". Mostly because I love the concept. It's something most people are very uncomfortable with (that they believe what they're told to believe and what they find socially acceptable to believe).
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

"Leverage" used as a verb makes me cringe.
...and I like (and use) "leverage" as a verb, too. :P

Maybe they were providing coolers of Miller Lite for the kids? Wouldn't you feel silly. :P

As to OPs query, I can offer nothing but sympathy. Every time I browse a bookstore's humour section, there seems to be another no-name author's drab attempt at a new book on zombie survival, how to live as a zombie, zombie handbook, etc. a cursory glance over the contents of which convinced me that anyone seen walking out of the store with a copy under there arm should be swiftly decapitated to prevent the spread of infection.

I got this song, My Body's a Zombie for You, as a free download on iTunes via Facebook today. I hadn't heard of the band, Dead Man's Bones, before, but I recognize actor Ryan Gosling singing in the video.

Shameful confession: I find zombie movies tedious. I really can't stand them.

Do zombie spoofs count?

I don't understand the current obsession with either vampires or zombies. The world can be scary enough without populating it with overdone monster hacks. . .
We're all mad here!

Why so many zombie, vampire, and mutant movies lately? Maybe it’s because there was so many movies for so long about space aliens that aliens are now tired and beat. The current crop of zombie movies are fast paced compared to the older zombie movies which portrayed them as being slow moving. Also, the average movie shot duration is shorter now than it was decades ago. People like the faster pace.

I highly recommend "28 Days Later", the prototypical "fast zombie" movie. Very entertaining.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

No! No! No!

They were not "fast zombies"! (As if there ever could be such a thing!) They were "INFECTED". Big difference between the two. Think Super Rabies. They still had beating hearts, cardiovascular systems, respiratory systems, and all the rest.

Zombies are undead. Your options for destroying them are much more limited.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

LD, you're being unnecessarily obsessive purist!

While the Rage infection is not the same as being undead, the aggression and higher brain functions are similar in the two states. And I would argue that though the Rage victims are easier to kill, they're also much more deadly.

On an immediate basis, yes, they are much more deadly. Quicker, stronger, more agile, able to climb, etc... However, if you can find a safe spot to wait them out, they will quickly burn themselves out. Hearts bursting from too much stress on them. Bleeding out from relatively minor wounds due to increased circulatory system. Incapacitated from self inflicted wounds such as ripped hamstrings. Disease and illness burning through their systems. No sense of self preservation, and just general animalistic instincts will probably lead to them drinking from contaminated water sources... Nahh, if you can find a place to hole up for a couple of weeks, you'll be fine.

Undead, otoh, will just keep coming and coming. Unless you are in a relatively isolated environ, they will just keep coming and coming. One morning there's five outside your safehouse, a week later there's 200. A month later there's thousands... Then there's the psychological and spiritual implications of the dead walking... I'd much rather deal with a Rage outbreak than an undead apocalypse.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Well, if it's the End Times, all your worries will soon be over anyway.
