Yeah, you called the cops' actions stupid. You didn't "give the impression that you were maligning." You maligned. Pure and simple.

I just watched a story about this on the news with a Cambridge police officer that says he was there and saw the whole thing. He says that Sgt. Crowley did nothing wrong.

This guy's story has gotten almost no coverage as far as I can tell. Maybe I mis-heard it.

The police officer that is saying this is the same color as Mr. Gates.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Yes, it was painful to watch. The sincerity was wanting.

i don't know..

it seems kind of stupid to arrest a man on his own property

that's hardly the type of protection i would expect. from law enforcement..

on the other hand it is better to be safe than sorry. i myself called the cops once on what i thought was an intruder.. when i myself to tried to leave my apt. the cops thought i (me) was the intruder and told me to drop my weapon (a little kitchen knife :D ) and jump (JUMP!) from a window.

of course the professor was black, so what should he expect? in the eyes of many, he's just another nigger. Obama is black too.. or 1/2 black at least. possible he has some empathy.

i feel sorry for black people... imagine living in a society where you are guilty because of your hue.

Sorry, apple, but that's dumber than a bag of hammers.

But look at the bright side...at least the Prof was arrested by a man who teaches classes to other cops on what not to do when profiling. Us dumb rednecks down here in Bayou Land, would have told him twice to lower his voice and behave, with the third warning being a P24 up side his head.

That goes for black people, white people, brown people and those of the rainbow hue among us.

In this state, you damn well better respect that badge or they will make you respect the badge.

Nothing racial about it.

You can't see the difference between "you're stupid" and "you acted stupidly"?

One is about you as a person.

The other is about your behavior in a particular situation.

What Obama said is the equivalent of, "if, by criticizing your individual behavior in this instance, I gave the impression that I was criticizing you as a person, I regret that."

He should have said. Oh sh!t, I screwed up, I'm sorry. I shot my mouth off without thinking.

He'd have got my respect if he'd said that. Obviously, he really doesn't care whether he's got my respect or not, which is probably a good thing for him.

Yeah. That's what I want the president spending his time on. Unfortunately it looks like things of such importance may occupy his next 4 1/2 lame duck years. He's hemorrhaging goodwill and credibility like nothing I've ever seen.

3 1/2 already seems like 4 1/2.

On the positive side, the election feels like it goes on for about 6 years, so we pretty much get to feel as though we're living forever.

I have a theory that the US election will end up causing a groundswell of opinion towards making voluntary euthanasia of citizens legal. The only alternative I see at this time is making involuntary euthanasia of public 'servants' compulsory.
